Electrical Testing

Regular inspection of street lighting furniture is an essential part of any preventive maintenance programme and is covered by both the IEE and Electricity at Work Regulations.

Whilst these regulations do not spell out the frequency for maintenance and testing the "Guidance notes relating to Electrical Safety on the Highway to Achieve Compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations" published by the County Surveyors Society Engineering Committee Street Lighting Working Group recommends that testing of all existing installations shall be carred out at intervals not exceeding 6 years.

To comply with current regulations each of our Electrical Tests can cover:

  • Polarity

  • Continuity of Protective Conductor

  • Insulation Resistance
  • Prospective Short Circuit Current (PSCC)
  • Earth Electrode and RDC Tests

We also offer the additional service of visual inspection to report the electrical condition of each asset.

Conforming to IEE Regulations

Chapter 73 of the IEE Regulations requires periodic inspection and testing of lighting installations to:

  • verify the ongoing safety of persons and livestock and protection of property from damage as a result of fire and heat.
  • identify that the installation is not damaged or deteriorated which could impair safety.
  • identify defects or non compliance with Regulations with could cause danger.

As members of ASLEC, all Cortest Engineers are regularly assessed and trained to comply with the current regulations.
